Claude is Anthropic’s AI assistant, and it is the one we reach for when the job is writing, reading, or reasoning over long material. It tends to produce cleaner first-draft prose, follows detailed instructions closely, and reads very large documents in a single pass, which makes it a strong fit for contracts, research, policy, and code review. The Team plan wraps that in a shared workspace with central billing, SSO, admin controls, and a commitment not to train on your content. The catch is a five-seat floor.
Who it is for
Language-heavy and code-heavy teams of five or more. Reach for Claude to turn a messy brief into a finished document, summarize a 100-page report, draft and review code, or run a repeatable task through Projects (a reusable workspace that carries its own instructions and reference files). Team gives every seat Anthropic’s current models, including Opus 4.8 and Sonnet 5, with higher usage limits than the free tier and shared Projects for the whole workspace.
The real pricing math
Individual Pro is $17/mo billed annually, or $20 month-to-month. The Team plan is $20 per standard seat per month on annual billing, or $25 monthly, with a five-seat minimum (max 150). A Premium seat runs $100/mo annual ($125 monthly) for much higher usage. Enterprise is a custom base-plus-usage arrangement billed at API rates. The five-seat floor is the number that matters: a two- or three-person shop still pays for five seats on Team, so budget at least $1,200 a year (5 x $20 x 12) even if only three people ever log in.
What they don’t tell you
Standard seats have two ceilings, not one. There is a rolling session limit and a separate weekly limit that resets at a fixed time assigned to your account, and everything - Claude.ai, Claude Code, Claude Desktop - draws from the same pool. A few heavy days and a standard-seat user can hit the weekly cap mid-week and be locked out until reset. That lockout is the whole reason the $100 Premium seat exists (much higher limits). If some staff live in the tool all day, budget a mix of standard and Premium seats, not five flat standard ones.
Two more things. The five-seat minimum makes Team a worse deal than ChatGPT Business (two-seat floor) for the smallest teams. And your Projects and saved prompts stay inside Anthropic with no clean export, so factor that in before you build a workflow you would later have to rebuild elsewhere.
Who should skip it
Teams of two to four. You pay for five seats regardless, so run individual Pro accounts at $17/mo each until you grow into the workspace features. And because rivals trade the quality lead month to month, decide on your own tasks, not a leaderboard.
Bottom line
For language-heavy and code-heavy teams of five or more, Claude Team is an easy recommendation - the writing quality and long-document handling are its edge, and the workspace controls are what a business needs. Below five people, run individual Pro accounts, or trial Claude against ChatGPT Business and pick whichever wins on your actual work. Budget a mix of standard and Premium seats if anyone is a genuine power user.
